Manila in the 60’s

Isko Moreno’s first week as Manila Mayor is characterized by a swift clearing and cleaning operations. The Philippines’ Capital City is receiving its long-awaited and well-deserved bath. While Manila is being cleaned up, I thought of posting some of Old Manila pictures that I kept in my phone for so many years now. These pictures show the beauty and cleanliness of Manila during the 1960’s.

The streets are clean and shining. People are well-dressed. There are no sidewalk vendors and no traffic jam as well.

Jeepneys are properly queued up in front of Dencia’s Kitchenette near Villalobos and Carriedo.

Look at Roxas Boulevard and Manila Bay.

Look at the cars in Escolta, the street and people walking along the sidewalk. I don’t know the brand and model of the cars but I am thrilled by just looking at them. Can anybody tell me the brand and model of those cars, please?

Fort Santiago is as lovely as before. I’ve been here several times already in the past months and I intend to visit this place and the entire Walled City (Intramuros) more often.

Pasig River! Wow! That is Sta. Cruz view from the Pasig River. I remember the countless stories about how people enjoyed Pasig River before. All I can say is WOW!

Jones Bridge is a little crowded but still clean and orderly.

Look at how people cross Avenida Street. See how they are dressed. Look at the street, no, litter whatsoever!

We can’t bring back the Old Manila, but we are looking forward to the ‘New Manila’ that Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso started to build. We hope other Metro Manila Mayors will follow suit (hindi palusot!).

  1. Wonderful post. I left Manila in the late 60s and when I went back the first time in the early 90s, I did not recognize it at all. I miss the Old Manila!
