Message of the Day: Godliness in an Ungodly Society
“Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.” (2 Corinthians 7:1, NIV)
In 6:14-18 Paul warned the believers in Corinth against idolatry and wickedness of the Corinthians. They told them to shun ungodliness, “Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.” And “I will be a father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters..” (v.v. 17 & 18).

In view of this promises, believers in Corinth were admonished to cleanse themselves from all impurities that may have contaminated them due to their associations with some of the Corinthians so that they can begin the process of holiness.
This admonition is also true to us. We can have no part in the ungodliness of the society in which we live. We are members of God’s family. It follows that our relationship with our heavenly father should be our priority.
We must make every effort not to contaminate our body and soul with the ungodliness and impurities of the world and receive the promises of God as a result.
