Message of the Day: God’s Unchanging Care and Affection.
“Even to your old age, I am He, And even to gray hairs I will carry you! I have made, and I will bear; Even I will carry, and will deliver you.” (Isaiah 46:4, NKJV)
The prophet pictures the Babylonian refugees as they flee from the armies of Cyrus, taking with them whatever personal possession they can carry. Their gods instead of saving the people, have to be saved by them. They have no power to help the refugees, instead they become a burden to the extent that animals groan under the extra weight they have to carry (v.v. 1,2).
The people of God, by contrast, are carried by him. The God who created them cares for them, and will continue to care for them to the very end. He is the same, he remains unchangeable, with the same tenderness, the same affection, the same care. He who had watched over the infancy of his people with so much solitude would not leave them in the exposures, infirmities, and trials of the advanced years of their history.
I have a very strong conviction that this is also applicable to those who are literally aged. They need God’s care no less than childhood does. Likewise, those who are young, if they walk in God’s ways in the vigor and strength of their life, he will not cast them off when they are old and gray-headed.
