Message of the Day: Respect And Obedience To Parents Beautify And Honor Life.
“My son, hear the instruction of your father. And do not forsake the law of your mother. For they will be a graceful ornament on your head, and chains about your neck.” (Proverbs 1:8-9, NKJV)
This is a typical introduction to an instruction speech in Proverbs, evoking a domestic situation of a father preparing his son for life in the world. Here the mother is also depicted as a teacher as in 6:20.
Proverbs 1:8-19 gives the first of a series of lessons on the value of wisdom. The writer speaks as a father to a son, drawing from his own experience to give advice and warning.
In Israel during the time of the kings, no signs or badges of joy or glory were higher in worth than the garland around the head, the gold chain around the neck, worn by kings and favorites of kings. Here the writer implies that the surest way to attain eminence in civil and political matters, is to act according to the principles of true wisdom, proceeding from the fear of God.
If you obey your parents’ instructions, you will attain prominence not just in your home but in the entire community thus, you will be honored. True wisdom derives from obedience to parents, it beautifies your life.
