Message of the Day: Godly Heritage
The Philippines designates the month of May as National Heritage Month. Deuteronomy 4:9: “Only take heed to yourself, and diligently keep yourself, lest you forget the things your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. And teach them to your children and your grandchildren…” (NKJV)
In order that Jewish people might not forget his commandments, God had written them down and commanded Moses to teach them. Moses in turn passed this command on to the new generation by instructing the people to teach these same commandments to their children, and their children’s children.
2 Timothy 1:5: “…when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also.” (NKJV)
Timothy’s faith, which so attracted Paul to him, was largely the result of godly upbringing and heritage by his mother Eunice and grandmother Lois. We see here the heritage which came from the Lois to her daughter Eunice and down to her grandson Timothy.
Aside from material and immaterial culture that we pass on from one generation to another, we must above all, pass on a godly heritage.
