The total number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines as of yesterday May 8, 2020 is 10, 463 with 1, 734 recoveries and 696 deaths.
ABS-CBN shuts down after receiving NTC’s cease and desist order. It was due to the network’s failure to renew their legislative franchise.
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed Executive Order No. 114, institutionalizing the balik probinsya, bagong pag-asa program as a pillar of balanced regional development, creating a council therefore, and for other purposes.
The Metro Manila Council (MMC) will hold a virtual meeting today to discuss the possible extension of the enhanced community quarantine in the National Capital Region beyond May 15.
It is clear that whether the ECQ is extended or not, there’s going to be a normal. We will not go back to the old normal. The government issued its guidelines that we should observe.
In the Bible we read about the Pentecost in the book of Acts where the disciples received the Holy Spirit as promised by Jesus. They were in total confusion when they did not find Jesus’ remains on that particular Sunday. I suppose that that confusion lingered until the day Jesus spoke to them about their “new normal”.
Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be [a]witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” -Acts 1:6-8 NKJV –
Up to this time they still view Jesus as a political leader who they expect to liberate them from the brutality of the Roman empire. Jesus told them not to spend time thinking about things that God did not intend them to know, but to go and tell people everywhere that he was alive and triumphant. Jesus would no longer be with them physically, but through the Spirit he would come and live in them to enable them to carry on the work that he had started.
The disciples transitioned from confused and fearful bunch of learners to bold and powerful leaders of the church pictured in the book of Acts after they had received the Holy Spirit during the Pentecost. Peter’s life was transformed. He preached a lengthy but powerful message and became the first leader of the church as, prophesied to him by no less than Jesus.
Most of us are confused and in a state of fear. We are in a period of transition form ECQ to GCQ and hopefully, in less than two years we can receive the vaccine that would allow us to move freely again. Let us allow the Holy Spirit to embolden and strengthen us, as we prepare for the the new normal. We will never be the same after this pandemic, but we are assured that will never change, he will never leave nor forsake us. He is no longer present physically, but we have the Holy Spirit with us today. He will guide, comfort, and strengthens us.
