Message of the Day: God Honors Patient, Persistent and Persevering Prayer
“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” (Luke 11:13, NKJV)
In 2014 a book entitled PUSH, an acronym for Pray Until Something Happens, was published by Nelson Books. It basically teaches the readers to be patient and vigilance and to pray according to God’s will.
Luke 11:5-13 and the story of a persistent widow in 18:1-8 were told for one specific purpose of teaching that God will honor patient, persistent, persevering prayer.
Here, Jesus gave two examples to show his followers that they can put their requests to God confidently. Even a tired and uncooperative neighbor can be persuaded by a person’s persistence into giving him what he needs. How much more will God, who is a loving Father, supply all the needs of his children.
We do not have to beg from a God who is unwilling to give. We go to God as children go to their father, confident that he will not disappoint us or give us less than we ask.
