Message of the Day: God Is Always Present To Protect And Strengthen His People!
“Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’” (Isaiah 41:10, NKJV)
Isaiah 41 tells of the rise of Cyrus. Cyrus is not named here, but he is named later, in 44:28 and 45:1, and unmistakably is the “one from the east” (v. 2) and the “one from the north” (v. 25; armies from the east always entered Palestine from the north, since they had to follow the Euphrates River). Isaiah died 150 years before the days of Cyrus, yet here is a vision of Cyrus’s rapid conquest of the world, which is ascribed to the providence of God (v. 4). God promises protection for Israel (vv. 8–20) and then challenges the gods of the nations to show their ability to predict the future (vv. 21–29).
Isaiah imagines God calling the nations to assemble before him and asking them a question: who is it that has stirred up Cyrus to carry out this conquest? The answer: Yahweh (41:1-4). As the armies of Cyrus approach these nations the people panic, and in their distress call upon their gods for protection. Isaiah pictures the goldsmiths and other craftsmen helping and encouraging each other as they work overtime to meet the heavy demand for idols.
The people of Israel, by contrast, are the people of the living God. He chose them long ago and he has not forgotten them. He is always present to strengthen and protect them.
