Message of the Day: Keep Our Eyes On Jesus And Discipline Ourselves To Withstand Defeat.
“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1-2, NKJV)

The Christian life is pictured as a long-distance race rather than a short sprint. Some Hebrew Christians were tempted to drop out of the contest because of persecution. (NASB Study Bible)
Surrounded by a vast crowd of those who, in former ages, had run their race for God victoriously and who were now gazing with breathless interest at the initial struggles of the newborn church, the runners are urged to keep their eyes on the goal and to strain every nerve and muscle to win.
The examples of true faith that the author of the book of Hebrews has just given in Chap. 10 should encourage the Jewish Christians to face their difficulties with similar perseverance.
Let us be encouraged to endure as we consider the sufferings that Jesus endured and the heavenly reward that he now enjoys (Hebrews 12:1-2).
