Message of the Day: Pursuit of Happiness
Text: Psalm 1:1-6
Key Verse: Psalm 1:1
“Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful..” (NKJV)

Psalm chapter 1 serve as an introduction to the whole collection of psalms. It depicts the life of the righteous or the godly and the reward it brings, and the life of the wicked or the ungodly and the condemnation it will suffer. God is the sovereign controller of each person’s destiny and he orders all things according to his own righteousness. The righteous is different from the wicked both in his thought and behavior. He progressively increases his knowledge of the word of God, and as he allows God’s word to transform his outlook and attitudes, his character becomes more and more like God’s.
Note that Psalm 1 opens with the noun “blessed” or happiness, like the beattitude or the sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5:3-12. Happiness (blessedness) is the condition of those who view life in light of God’s word, those revere the Lord and do his will, who put their trust in Him.
We may have the same pursuit: to live a life of happiness and grow in the knowledge of God’s word.
