Message of the Day: Plan Your Future But Do Not Be Overconfident As If God Does Not Exist
“Do not boast about tomorrow,
For you do not know what a day may bring forth.” (Proverbs 27:1, NKJV)

It is a fact that changes cannot be foreseen by us. Man builds plans with so much confidence on his present situation as if some assurance were given him that it were never change. The passage does not discourage wise planning for the future only one’s overconfident sense of ability to control the future—and no one can presume on God’s future.
“There is a similar passage in the book of James, “Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.” But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.” (James 4:13-16, NKJV)
Here boasting is another sign of worldliness. It happens when we arrange our lives as if God des not exist, as if we control the future. We should view life differently from non-believers. We should not live as if our lives on earth are going to last forever, but should consider the eternal purposes of God and arrange our affairs accordingly.
Our main consideration should be to do God’s will, not to look for personal gain and advancement.
