Message of the Day: The Certainty of God’s Word!
“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12, NKJV)
God’s plan was that the people of Israel, who had been freed from slavery in Egypt, should find rest in Canaan, the land God promised them. In the same way God wants all the people of the world to be freed from the bondage of sin and find rest in Christ. But as with Israel, disbelief will keep them from this promised rest (Heb. 4:1-2).

The Israelites who were disobedient failed to reach Canaan and experience rest under Moses. It was through the leadership of Joshua that they finally entered the promised land, However, long after the time of Joshua, David reiterated God’s promise of rest. This shows that the conquest of Canaan was not the final fulfillment of God’s promise. The true rest that God promises is salvation through faith. Just as God rested after his work of creation, so we will find true rest when we refrain from working to try to earn it and trust in what Christ has done for us (Heb. 4:9-10).
We should strive to remove unbelief and all other issues that keep us from experiencing God’s rest. We have the powerful word of God to help us abhor unbelief. It has the power to penetrate into the innermost part of our heart and is able to know every motive, desire and purpose, and evaluate them at their true value. It exposes people as they really are before God (Heb. 4:11-13).
Our best hope of experiencing rest lies in our obedience to God’s Word. If we could only realize the certainty of God’s word and what power we would gain by giving God’s Word its proper place in lives!
