Message of the Day: God’s Word – Unfailing Source of Comfort and Happiness!
“Trouble and anguish have overtaken me,
Yet Your commandments are my delights.” (Psalm 119:143, NKJV)
So wonderful is the instruction of God’s word that God’s loyal servant has a hunger to know more of it. He knows that by following God’s word he has victory over sin and temptation. He weeps to think that people would trample underfoot such noble teaching. Their irreverence causes him further sorrow, for they are cutting themselves off from the knowledge of God. Only through God’s word can people develop a true understanding of God’s justice, righteousness and faithfulness. As for the psalmist, he finds God’s word reliable and true, and a constant source of comfort, joy and instruction.
“Trouble” here means “trouble of any kind.” The word “anguish” would probably express that which results from being “pressed”, “compressed”, “straitened”. It refers to a situation where there is no room to move, and where we are pent up in a narrow place.
Trouble, anguish, death, are in pursuit of us all our lives, and are never very far in the rear of us. Often, when we least expect them, they come suddenly up to us, and make us their victims.
No matter what comes, we have an unfailing source of comfort, the truth of God; and still make God and his word the source of our happiness.
