Message of the Day: Those Who Love God Will Keep On Loving One Another!
If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also. (1 John 4:20-21, NKJV)
Whoever loves God must also love his brother. “Brother” here means ‘any fellow or man’, ‘a fellow believer’, or ‘the brethren in Christ’. The expression “does not love ” means ‘the one who does not keep on loving’ his brother.
It is God’s nature to love. Love in human nature has been ruined by sin, but when people entered into a relationship with God, they learn to love as God loves. (1 John 4:7-8) The character of God’s love is seen in his act of giving his Son to die for those who have rebelled against him. They are worthy of death, but Jesus died to bear the judgment of sin on their behalf. As a result they can now have life. (1 John 4:9-10) We cannot see God, but we can see that he lives within us when we practise his love. We show this most clearly when we love those who do not deserve it. (1 John 4:11-12)
We have increased confidence in God through our inward possession of the Holy Spirit and our outward acknowledgement of Jesus Christ as the Son of God and the Savior of sinners. We know that we live in God and that God lives in us. (1 John 4:13-15) This new relationship with God enables us to practise love towards other people as Jesus did. This gives us added confidence that we are saved eternally and need never fear God’s judgment. (1 John 4:16-18)
Therefore, if we love God we will keep on loving one another, but if we hate one another we cannot honestly claim to love God.
