Message of the Day: The Way To Restore An Offending Brother
“Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.” (Galatians 6:1, NKJV)
The word “overtaken” means “surprise.” This could mean that if any man be fallen by chance into any fault.” It refers to cases of surprise, or of sudden temptation. Christians do not commit sin deliberately, and as a part of a plan of life; but they may be surprised by sudden temptation, or urged on by impetuous or headstrong passion.
When we live by the Spirit’s power, we will want to be of spiritual help to others. We will not be harshly critical when we see other believers caught in wrongdoing, but will feel the sorrow of others as if it were our own. We will remember how easily anyone can be overcome by temptation. With love, gentleness, humility, patience and with a readiness to forgive when wrong has been done, let us restore any offending brother who was “overtaken” by temptation!
