Message of the Day: A Commitment to Christ and Gentleness in Defending the Faith
“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear…” (1 Peter 3:15, NKJV)

Persecution cannot really harm those who are eager to please God, because with such people persecution always results in greater spiritual blessing. Because they love what is right they may be persecuted by those who love what is wrong, but to suffer for such a reason is a cause for joy, not sorrow. If people are devoted to Christ and are always ready to give others an explanation for their devotion, they will not fear their persecutors. 3:13-15)
This is an exhortation to make an inner commitment to Christ. We need not be speechless when called on to defend our faith. Instead, there must be a readiness to answer. We are always to be gentle even when opposed by unbelievers. Our defense (apologetic) is always to be given with love, never in degrading terms.
