Message of the Day: The Fruits of Our Faith
“But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 1:5-8, NKJV)
Goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, love. These are the fruits of our faith, which we are to add to the blessings that God has already given to us. These qualities should be evidence of increased spiritual knowledge. We can develop these qualities simultaneously. The more a Christian grows and matures in the knowledge of Christ, the more we expect to see a corresponding increase in these qualities in one’s life.
Faith that is genuine will produce lives of moral goodness, but only if believers apply some determination and effort. True Christians will want to increase in the knowledge of God, and this will teach them self-control and endurance, leading to godliness. As they will love others more. Those who eagerly seek these qualities will be useful for God.
