Message of the Day: Resurrection – A Glorious Entrance Into Something New
“We believe that Jesus died and rose again. When he returns, many who believe in him will have died already. We believe that God will bring them back with Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 4:14, NIRV)
Among the Thessalonians, some were worried that those in their church who had died would not share in the return of Christ and the final triumph of his kingdom. Paul assures them that they will share in his return just as they share in his death and resurrection. Believers who have died, far from being at a disadvantage, will be raised to life first. Believers sill alive will join them, and together they will meet Christ and be with him for ever. Christian faith should give people hope and encouragement. They should see death not as a tragic end but as glorious entrance into something new (4:13-18).
The death and resurrection of Jesus were connected with the resurrection of believers. If we believe that Jesus has risen from the dead, we ought also to believe that we too, shall be resurrected. Christ will return as he promised, and when that happens he will bring us with him for he is the head of the Church, which is his body.
