Message of the Day: God Alone Provides Us with Peace
‘The Lord will bless you and watch over you.
The Lord will smile on you and be kind to you.
The Lord will look on you with favor and give you peace.’ (Numbers 6:24-26, GW)
This is called as the Aaronic blessing or benediction. The threefold repetition of the divine name Yahweh (‘the Lord”) is for emphasis and gives force to the expression in verse 27: “So they shall invoke my name on the sons of Israel.” Each verse conveys two elements of benediction, and the verses are progressively longer ( in the Hebrew text, the first verse has three words, the second has five and the third has seven).
Every time we hear such benediction at the close of our worship services, God reminds us that he alone provided us with health, prosperity, protection and safety. In his grace and mercy he would be patient with our failures, correct our weaknesses and give us the full enjoyment of his unlimited blessings. We are God’s own people.
